Mayr-Melnhof Holz wins the Styrian Timber

Construction Award 2009

in the category public an commercial buildings

Goal

The Styrian Timber Construction Award 2009 is awarded to honour outstanding examples of timber constructions in Styria and to present them to the public. The award is given to projects that focus not only on architecture and design but also on how a building fits into its surroundings and how people and natural resources are respected. They are all-embracing concepts aiming at ecological, economical and social sustainability.

Projects accepted

All new building projects, building extensions and building modifications that have been erected in Styria between 2004 and now and have never been handed in for a Timber Construction Award, can be handed in.

The Timber Construction Awards 2009 are presented in the following categories:

• Single family houses

• Mehrfamilienhäuser

• Public and commercial buildings

• Farm buildings

• Tourist buildings

• Extension buildings, modifications

Special awards are presented in the following categories:

• Special award for outstanding achievements in handicraft

• Special award for sustainability

• Audience award: from all projects that were handed in, the audience will choose the most comfy building.

Participation

Participation is limited to the federal province of Styria. Hence, the papers handed in need to refer to building projects that have been realised in Styria by a timber construction firm between 1 January 2004 and now. Participation is open to all timber construction firms, building owners as well as architects, civil engineers (structural engineering) or authorised planners according to the applicable EEC architect’s decree.
