Wood provides that feel-good factor
Hotel Falkensteiner in Schladming (AT) not only combines body, mind and soul, but parts of this new hotel also merge with nature thanks to an innovative solid timber construction method. Mayr-Melnhof Holz’s cross-laminated timber was used to great effect for its projecting and recessed loggias. The use of MM crosslam marked an important aspect in the design of this multi-storey building.

The new Falkensteiner Hotel features 130 rooms in three wings linked via a glazed atrium. The glazed, central atrium is the heart of the hotel, offering views of the magnificent mountains surrounding Schladming and the finish area of the world-famous Planai Worldcup ski racing track. This creates an exciting interaction between the building and its surrounding nature: Nature captures the building and the building captures nature.
From the structures’ orientation to the design of the interior and exterior areas to the materials used, the building’s architecture has a direct link to Schladming. Its design takes into account the region’s character, simultaneously creating a creative, modern touch.
The projecting and recessed loggias have been executed in an innovative solid timber construction method for which cross-laminated timber from Mayr-Melnhof Holz was used.
