A wooden school

The Sydskogen Skole state school in Bødalen (NO) meets the requirements of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. During the planning and construction phases, criteria relating to energy efficiency, use of materials and building quality, amongst other things, were taken into account. A variety of building materials and construction methods were used, all of which were selected in accordance with the project’s requirements. Walls, ceilings and roofs consist of solid MM crosslam cross-laminated timber supplied by Mayr-Melnhof Holz.

Sydskogen School in Bødalen (NO) was built based on the municipality’s strict energy and climate targets. making it a showcase for how public procurement can drive forward sustainable and climate-friendly building solutions. The project demonstrates how public sector clients can take such requirements into account when planning and implementing construction projects. The building was the first school to be awarded the Nordic Swan eco-label. The certification takes into account criteria relating to the construction process as well as the use and operation of the building.

The school was largely built using wood: 1,700 m3 of solid PEFC-certified cross laminated timber from Mayr-Melnhof Holz were used for wall, ceiling and roof structures. The origin and use of the building material was meticulously controlled. In addition, requirements relating to air quality, lighting and acoustics were taken into account during the planning and construction phases.
