Ensuring in the present that sufficient resources will be available in the future is the principle of sustainability to which European forestry has been committed for some 300 years. We at Mayr-Melnhof Holz exclusively source the valuable raw material that is wood from sustainably managed forests that are PEFC-certified or meet similar standards recognised by the PEFC. We see this is part of our corporate responsibility, today and for future generations.
We at Mayr-Melnhof Holz know where and from whom we can source our raw material and can trace the delivery chain all the way back to the forest. Based on long-standing reliable partnerships, we have established a strong network of log suppliers in the vicinity of our sawmills at Leoben (AT), Paskov (CZ), Insjön (SE), Blyberg (SE) and Mora (SE) to secure supply with this valuable raw material.
Long-standing partnerships with regional log haulers ensure reliable and timely collection of the logs. In our company, digitisation is not a foreign word, but applied knowledge. With our electronic delivery note system, we can provide suppliers, carriers and dispatchers with transparent information, who can then use an app to call up the status of the transport order and all relevant information on the delivery at any time, collected on the cooperation platform FHP (Forst Holz Papier | woodlogistic or woodaccept): Supplier, pickup location, carrier, delivery location, assortment, wood type, delivery quantity, delivery date, delivery time, pictures of the freight.
If we purchase logs from more distant destinations to ensure a continuous supply of raw materials to our sawmills, we use environmentally friendly rail transport wherever possible.
Mayr-Melnhof Holz’s modern log grading facilities are equipped with calibrated and regularly checked measuring systems and every single log is documented and photographed. In order to ensure correct classification of the logs, our log graders are regularly trained by external specialists. Receipt certificates, measurement protocol data, receipt quality and quantity evaluations, etc. can be accessed online via the cooperation platform FHP (Forst Holz Papier | woodlogistic or woodaccept). Transparency is important to us.

The logistics for our log transports from the supplier to the respective sawmill are carried out together with selected freight partners. Delivery to our sawmills is managed by our internal logistics department in close coordination with our log suppliers as well as the carriers.
In the immediate vicinity, deliveries are made by crane trucks directly from the forest to the mill; for more distant destinations, semi-trailer trucks are used, as their lighter weight allows a higher load capacity with lower fuel consumption. This has both economic and ecological advantages. If possible and reasonable, we transport logs in an environmentally friendly way by rail.
